The Ultimate Family-Friendly Getaway in Victoria Falls

Here at The Palm River Hotel, we understand that every family is unique. We pride ourselves on catering to all ages and all personality types, from the thrill-seeking members of your family, to those who love nothing better than finding a shady spot on the banks of the Zambezi River to enjoy a good read.

As you may know, Victoria Falls is widely known as ‘Africa’s Adventure Capital,’ a title we wear with pride, and with good reason! Here you and your family can participate in a number of river-based pursuits, from sunset cruises and tiger fishing, to marvelling at the falls – one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the world. Let us guide you through our stunning Victoria Falls family accommodation and all the exciting things you and your kids can do in the area.

Family-Friendly Activities in Victoria Falls

Tour the Falls

In the same way you wouldn’t go to Paris and not visit the Eiffel Tower, a tour of the mighty waterfall is practically compulsory when visiting Victoria Falls.

There are 15 viewing points of the falls on the Zimbabwean side of the river, and a well-marked pathway that’s suited to all members of the family. If you’d like a little extra insight into the history of the falls and the surrounding area, you can also opt for a guided tour, which we would be happy to organise for you.

Some famous viewing points to look out for are Devil’s Cataract, Main Falls and Rainbow Falls – take your next family photo in front of the ever-present rainbow!

Beside the falls, the banks of the Zambezi are constantly showered in sheets of water off the waterfall itself and it’s here where a magnificent, ancient rainforest has taken root. Kids love exploring this magical forest. With its dense canopy, it feels as if you’ve entered an enchanted world of green.

Click here to view the Victoria Falls rainforest footpath map and take your family out for a fun, outdoorsy excursion. You’ll see the loop takes you past all the main viewing points of the falls as well – a great way to combine two fun activities!

Ra-Ikane River Cruises

Our cruise boats remain a firm favourite with tourists and you have the added advantage of direct access from the hotel. We offer a number of different water-based experiences perfect for the entire family, from sunset cruises to bird-watching cruises, depending on your interests. Why not enjoy lunch on the river with one of our lunchtime cruises? We generally follow a circular route that passes the Zambezi River islands – a spectacular way to take in the sights upriver.

Get Your Adrenaline Pumping

If you’re a family that loves chasing thrills, you’re in luck! Victoria Falls has plenty of adventure activities to choose from: White water rafting, bungee-jumping, gorge swinging, ziplining, the Flight of Angels helicopter ride over the falls, swimming in Devil’s Pool, and more! Naturally, these activities are dependent on age, but imagine the stories you can tell the folks back home. All these activities are made even more breathtaking with the falls in the background. The ever-present rumble of water crashing over the 108m plummet lends an added air of excitement to every activity.

Visit Town

We’re a short 7km drive away from the vibrant local town that boasts wonderful eateries, gorgeous galleries and the famous craft markets of Victoria Falls. Elephant’s Walk shopping village is full of curio shops and houses a particularly popular café with an indoor courtyard adorned with blooming flowers. The hotel facilitates regular shuttles to and from all popular tourist destinations in Victoria Falls, so we’ve got you covered!

On-Site Activities

Swimming Pool
A 34m infinity pool in the foreground of the main area merges with the horizon and offers a cool oasis under the shade of towering trees. At night the pool area transforms into a starlit wonderland, with the use of cleverly illuminated pebbles and lighting. The pool is cleverly separated into sections; including a 24m lap pool, a shallow splash pool for children and a refreshing infinity pool in the lower section. The pool runs parallel to the flowing waters of the Zambezi River.

Nature Walk
As an additional onsite activity for guests and nature lovers is the hotel’s Indigenous Nature Walk. Guests may embark on a gentle meandering through the natural surroundings of the hotel grounds and identify the variety of indigenous trees that have been carefully marked with a discrete plaque and details of each individual species. From the buffalo-thorn tree to the crocodile bark tree, guests have much to discover with over 150 trees or shrubs to identify within the hotel grounds.
